While Rukia was incarcerated in the Squad 6 barracks, he talked with Rukia often when he was sent to give her her meals and clean up the cell, and from this he learned about Ichigo and formed a friendship with Rukia. Mostly a kind old man, he can be feirce and decisive when necessary and displays great strength in combat. He is a childhood friend of the Lieutenant of Squad 5, Momo Hinamori, and would fight for her sake, and does when she is pulled into a plot to destroy the Seireitei, but is this really the true target?
